Cancer Center

The Cardinal Santos Cancer Center is located on the lower ground floor of the main hospital building. It is dedicated to providing a holistic, comprehensive, and multi-disciplinary approach to cancer management. The facility, inaugurated in 2004 under the auspices of the country’s top surgical oncologist Dr. Samuel Ang, and Boston-trained Medical Oncologist Dr. Valerie Chan, the center is designed to foster collaboration among all cancer-related specialties. Unique in the country, the facility integrates both radiation and chemotheraphy units within a single area, providing seamless coordination of care.

The center also encourages muti-disciplinary consultations involving the patient, their family, and the specialists. Patients can schedule “family consult” through the patient coordinator, allowing them to meet with all relevant specialists in one session rather than arranging multiple separate appointments. This approach streamlines decision-making and provides the patient with the assurance that their treatment plan is the result of collaborative expertise. The Cancer Center’s team compromises both local and internationally trained doctors, all leaders in their fields, ensuring high quality, coordinated care.

Our Radiation Oncology Section offers cutting-edge treatments with state-of-the-art linear accelerators, including 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy (3DCRT) and Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), ensuring precise radiation delivery to tumors while minimizing damage to healthy tissues. With Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), we provide the highest level of precision. IGRT allows us to locate tumors during treatment ensuring accurate delivery while VMAT delivers radiation in a dynamic arc, reducing treatment time and enhancing dose distribution. We also offer Stereotactic Radiation Therapy (SRT), including Stereotactic Radio Surgery (SRS) and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT). These techniques provide high dose radiation with pin-point accuracy, ideal for targeting small tumors while minimizing side effects and improving quality of life. Additionally, Brachytherapy Unit is essential for the treatment of gynecologic cancers, working alongside other therapies to maximize effectiveness and local control of their disease.

Our Chemotherapy Unit is dedicated to delivering compassionate, expert-care, led by a team of highly skilled Medical Oncologists, Oncology Pharmacists, and Nurses. We strive to make chemotherapy not only effective, but also affordable, offering competitive pricing that is often lower without compromising quality or patient outcomes.

The Gynecologic Oncology Service plays an integral role in our multi-disciplinary approach to treating gynecologic malignancies, providing expertise in both local management through surgery and brachytherapy and systemic therapy.

Our Pediatric Hematology Oncology Unit provides a welcoming, child-friendly environment designed to reduce stress, allowing young patients to play and relax during their treatment. A Child-Life Specialist is available during office hours to provide psychological support and counseling, ensuring both children and their families receive the comfort and care they need throughout their journey.

Our Pain and Palliative Care Section is committed to providing compassionate, holistic support that ensures every cancer patient’s journey is as dignified and comfortable as possible. Our dedicated, multidisciplinary team includes Pain and Palliative Care specialists, Medical nutritionists, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Spiritual care providers, all working together to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our patients. With a personalized approach to care, we focus on enhancing quality of life, managing symptoms effectively, and supporting both patients and their families every step of the way.
