October 03, 2019
Last October 3, 2019, one of this year’s biggest events in the 45th anniversary line-up has transpired. The Brain & Spine Relaunch: Beyond Generation, the Reputation Endures showcased why CSMC is the hospital of choice when it comes to brain and spine cases.
Through the years, the Brain & Spine Institute has earned itself the reputation of being a recognized referral center for neurological diseases in the Philippines. CSMC houses the Philippine Gamma Knife Center, the first and only facility of its kind in the country. It also established the first center of excellence in movement disorder surgery.
Meanwhile, the Brain and Spine Tumor Center employs a multidisciplinary team approach in neuro-oncology that involves weekly conferences which promotes better communication and coordination for doctors resulting to better clinical outcomes for patients. Another subspecialty under the institute is the Cardinal Santos Spine Center which specializes in treating surgical and non-surgical spine disorders.
Apart from highlighting its various specialties, the event also put a spotlight on the pioneer and former chairman of the Brain & Spine Institute, Dr. Eduardo Mercado. He served two terms at CSMC as the Chief Medical Officer in 1993-1995 and 2011-2012. In 1995, he received the coveted Cardinal Sin Teacher Healer Award as a testament to his love for teaching. Dr. Mercado was presented by President & CEO, Atty. Pilar Nenuca Almira and SVP and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Zenaida Javier-Uy with a certificate to acknowledge his outstanding achievements and enormous contribution to the hospital.
Truly, as important as having the latest technology may be, competent and genuine services goes hand in hand in helping doctors provide expert treatment for patients’ neurological concerns.
