The Philippine Gamma Knife Center (PGKC) is one of the multidisciplinary centers of the Brain and Spine Institute at Cardinal Santos Medical Center. Established in February 1998, the PGKC is committed in providing world-class neurosurgical care and technology to Filipinos which was only available in other parts of the world. This year, the PGKC team comprised of neurosurgeons, radiation-oncologists, medical physicists, anesthesiologists and nurses are the most experienced specialists in the country having performed over 2,700 Gamma Knife procedures for the past 20 years.
“The team performing radiosurgery has been doing it for 20 years. You can imagine the kind of experience we bring to the patients when they come here. This is something you can’t compare...From the year we started, we just had Gamma Knife B Model, but now we have upgraded to a Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion which is top-of-the-line and latest model. Last year, we performed about 197 cases and we want to do more this 2018. These patients are coming from all over the Philippines and there are even foreigners who get their treatments here," shared by Dr. Theodore S. Vesagas, Clinical Director of PGKC.
Gamma Knife is the gold standard for the practice of Stereotactic Radiosurgery. Brain diseases commonly treated with the Gamma Knife include: Arterio-Venous Malformations, Meningiomas, Vestibular Schwannomas, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Single and Multiple Metastases from cancer of the lung, breast, colon, kidney, ovary, prostate & melanoma, Pituitary Adenomas, Miscellaneous Skull-base tumors, Selected Glial Neoplasms and Recurrent Ependymomas.
