Ga-68 PSMA PET/CT for Prostate Cancer evaluation launched in CSMC
January 01, 2019
Rising to the challenge of the times in providing expertise and excellent healthcare to its patients, Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC) announces its latest modern service offering for diagnosis, staging and prognostication of patients with prostate cancer - the Gallium-68 PSMA PET/CT imaging. According to the Philippine Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the 4th leading cancer site for Filipino males with more than 8 new cases every day. With prostate cancer being such a heterogenous disease, its diagnosis by imaging is challenging when using conventional techniques. Ga-68 PET/CT allows for the early detection of disease, more accurate staging and better treatment plan for the patient. For high-risk and high intermediate risk patients, the use of Ga-68 PET/CT can guide the attending physician in choosing appropriate interventions to avoid treatment failure.
The hospital’s PET/CT machine was purchased in 2017 in response to the commitment to the continuous pursuit for excellence, and this most recent added capability will serve to further enhance the quality of patient care. To complement this cutting-edge technology, PET/CT medical staff of the hospital were given relevant international trainings in both Switzerland and Japan.
The reported up-to-date equipment and trained medical staff are consistent with the hallmark of CSMC to deliver health services in the caring Cardinal way. And as Cancer transcends class and social borders, CSMC, though more known to be generally catering to the upper-class of the society, shall make this modern diagnostic equipment and procedure accessible to the other classes of the society as well.
